MISCONCEPTIONS TO KNOW WHEN TAKING THE US CITIZENSHIP TEST

Misconception 1: The process of applying for U.S. citizenship is very costly.
In reality, compared to the $540 USD every ten years to renew a green card, not to mention the fees for replacing or repairing a damaged green card, the $725 USD for filling out paperwork to take the citizenship test is much cheaper.

Misconception 2: The U.S. Citizenship Test is very difficult to pass.
There are plenty of free resources available online that you can use to prepare for the citizenship test. Don’t worry if you fail the first time, as you’ll have a second chance to retake the exam.

Misconception 3: Permanent Resident status offers many benefits that are unmatched.
While you can reside and work comfortably in the U.S. under Permanent Resident status, the benefits enjoyed by a U.S. citizen are far greater. Once you become a U.S. citizen, your status cannot easily be denied or revoked like that of a Permanent Resident. You can also travel with a U.S. passport, and if your relatives want to immigrate to the U.S., they will receive priority assistance. U.S. citizens have the right to vote in elections, and children of U.S. citizens will inherit U.S. citizenship.

Misconception 4: Paying to Know/Study All Questions in the Citizenship Test
No one can predict which questions will be asked in the Citizenship Test. There are sample questions available online for you, and paying someone to know exactly what questions will be on the Citizenship Test is simply wasting your money.

Misconception 5: It’s Okay to Tell Some “Harmless” Lies
Never think this way, even if you believe telling lies will increase your chances of passing the citizenship test. If caught, you could face criminal charges and negatively impact your citizenship test. If you’re concerned, it’s best to consult with a lawyer or immigration expert.

Misconception 6: You Can File Your Application Yourself
In reality, seeking assistance from a lawyer and an immigration expert will greatly help you in filing your application and preparing for the Citizenship Test.
